Multicasting allows numerous VMS China Client instances to connect directly to cameras without requiring dedicated video streams for each VMS China Client.

Multicasting can reduce the load on both the VMS China Server and camera when a large number of VMS China Client instances need to display video from a camera. To use multicasting with VMS China, both the cameras and the network switches must support multicasting. To check if a camera supports multicasting, check the Supported Video Devices list.

To configure multicasting, complete the following workflow:

Configure multicasting on the network switch.
Configure multicasting on the camera.
In the VMS China server configuration interface, add the camera and select Multicast as the transport for the camera.
In the VMS China Client, set the camera connection mode to Connect directly, if the camera supports it.
